15th Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival

At the Carolina Renaissance Festival, the entire 22-acre kingdom forms the set for comic adventures, in which you can be both audience and part of the fun! It is a medieval amusement park with a 10 stage theater, a jousting tournament, a twenty acre circus, and an arts & crafts fair with a cast of over 500 costumed characters. The festival is like a Monty Python movie come to life!

Festival In The Park

It's Family… It's Art… and It's Free. The 44th annual Festival in the Park, held in Freedom Park near uptown Charlotte begins on Thursday, September 18th and continues through Sunday, September 21st, 2008.

Since 1964, Festival in the Park has been bringing good music, good art and good times to Charlotteans and visitors from around the world. The sounds of "big band music" drift across Freedom Park's lake whose still surface reflects the lights strung from Camelot exhibit tents.

This fun filled event is designed to promote and stimulate interest in the arts. It provides the opportunity for all to see, hear, and learn from over 150 artists and crafts people who actively demonstrate and display their art. Nearly a thousand entertainers provide free ongoing performances at the main band shell and many stages surrounding it.

Festival in the Park has been chosen as one of Sunshine Artists Magazine's 200 BEST festivals. Over 100,000 visitors are estimated to have attended the 2007 Festival in the Park.

Miss Justine Hammack, age 17, daughter of Tammie Hammack, our CDC / Internet Assistant Manager, has won the following State Pageant Title: Miss North Carolina American Teen which qualifies her to represent North Carolina in the National Miss American Teen Pageant!

She will attend the National Pageant for her age group at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, during Thanksgiving week where she will compete with other outstanding girls from across the United States for thousands of dollars in cash scholarships and prizes.

In addition, Justine won the Talent Award, Best Personality, and Most Promising Model in her age division. She was awarded a free photo shoot with the John Casablanca Modeling Agency.

Hometown Heroes is dedicated to those kids who suffer from life threatening illnesses that need some big friends. The focus is to make these children and their families OUR families. "Big Kids Helping Little Kids" isn't just a slogan, it's a promise to make a difference in the lives of some kids that can use our help.

The Design Team Is Here! Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Helping East Charlotte Family

Have you heard the news? The hit show, ABC's Extreme Home Makeover is in Charlotte, NC!

ABC has chosen the King Family. Their home is infected with a hazardous mold that’s threatening their community as well as their children’s health and will be demolished and rebuilt in only seven days.

A single mother at age 15, Alisha King understands the importance of having a support system of family and friends during parenthood. She received help while raising Justin and was able to work several part time jobs and attend college.

Her dream has always been to give single parents a safe, nurturing, and affordable daycare that provides clothing, food, overnight care, mentoring, and constant education to the children. Her marriage to co-worker Curtis King in 1997 led to the birth of Kirkland and a new residence in Charlotte, North Carolina; where she finally opened “Step By Step Home Daycare.”

Though Alisha and Curtis went through many financial hardships, they always managed to selflessly give back to their community and maintain their daycare. Today they have 11 children in their daycare system on the clock and many in their home after hours, free of charge.

However, the condition of their home is putting their daycare and daughter Laila’s health in jeopardy. The mold has sent her to the hospital several times with asthma attacks, and it does not pose a healthy environment for the rest of the children when combined with the cramped quarters, and lack of heat, air conditioning, and gas.

It is up to Ty and his designers to step in to save their home and daycare center that continuously helps the community.

While Ty and the designers, local builder American Heartland Homebuilder and developer JED Development, and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the King family will go on vacation to Puerto Rico.

This is the second time American Heartland Homebuilder has been asked by the show to build a home for a family in need. The builder also contributed in 2006 for a family in Detroit.

From Concept to Reality--the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

One of the most widely anticipated concept vehicles in automotive history is finally more than just a concept. This week, Chevrolet unveiled the 2010 Camaro with sales beginning in early 2009.

According to Chevrolet General Manager, Ed Peper," The new Camaro delivers the best of both worlds--great heritage and a thoroughly modern, advanced package of performance, comfort, and technology. It's a sports car for a new generation of enthusiasts that doesn't forget the heritage that helped make the original a cultural icon."

The 2010 Camaro is built on the new GM global rear-drive platform and is offered in V6-powered LS and LT models as well as the V8-powered SS. All models and powertrain combinations include efficient six-speed transmissions.

JDRF 2008 Walk To Cure Diabetes

Thanks to Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac for their generous support of the 2008 JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes at Carowinds on April 19th.

Over 6,000 walkers participated in the Charlotte Walk; it is one of the top 5 in the nation! Melissa McCullough, Assistant CDC /Internet Manager at City Chevrolet and Courtnay Mayhew, Internet Manager at Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac, participated to support Courtnay's son, Tyler. He was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 5 and continues to struggle with this devastating disease.

Thanks to the support of the many people who walked, the support of Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac and City Chevrolet, hopefully a cure will be found soon!
